The reasoning behind this is that personally I think 75% of places are worth visiting, and 100% of the time I’m willing to help people if they have a question (if I have an answer).

I agree that “Worth Visiting” should be the default; personally, I don’t think I ever said anyplace was not worth visiting.
I do not think “Willing to Help” should be the default, however, as that may cause inadvertent filling of people’s inboxes as people may not realize that they will get quested emailed to them. On the other hand, I don’t get all that much email from 43places, so perhaps my concern is more theoretical.

I’ll post some numbers here for the emails I’ve gotten from 43places:
Since February 2007:
Seattle – 14 emails
Bellevue – 1 email
I wouldn’t say that’s enough emails to warrant setting the default to “not willing to help” in order to slow internet traffic. Maybe for big cities, but nothing else.
