The Government needs to censor the news during wartime but this overlaps into BBC deference to the status quo and permanent anxiety about offending the powers that be.
Edit: A difficult knot to untangle. The BBC can’t avoid the appearance of bias because it’s Board of Governors is politically appointed.
Perhaps with a broader political base (eg if Goverment were commonly formed by coalition as might occur under proportional reprisentation) the pressure to please a single dominant ideology would lesten.
