Is it possible to have two ‘flavors’ of goals – an E-goal where you make daily (or however frequently) entries and an S-goal which you could “expand” to show the sub-steps you needed to complete to achieve it? To take an example from my own goals: Raise my son in a way that honors his uniqueness is not something I have a clear idea how to achieve. This goal unfolds over time and lends itself beautifully to the “entry” format. For goals like “create my own website” if I had the option to add sub-steps I might start with “purchase a domain name”. Then “find a hosting service”. Then “design the site”. Christ, a website sounds like a lot of work! Maybe I just like the sound of this goal? Maybe I wish I was the kind of person who had their own website but in reality I can’t see myself taking any of these steps? So it might be that allowing structure to goals could help users discover if they really, really were interested in a particular goal or not? Perhaps you could add a sub-step goal (or as many as you wanted) each one for a flat-onetime charge or be given a “suggested donation” option so if you couldn’t afford it you could still use the functionality then if you’re able you could contribute more? There is something very energizing about the visual image: seeing your goal and the various milestones in writing. You guys are all programmers. When you’re working on a new piece of functionality do you just make random entries or do you break things into steps, search for hidden dependencies, identify critical milestones etc? I like the idea of having a sub-steps option and would be willing to pay extra for it. BTW - I love 43T and would continue being a loyal user even if all functionality stayed exactly as it is currently. I also feel a little ignorant making a suggestion at all. I have no idea what your site usage metrics look like, what the cost/benefit ratio is for non-trivial changes to functionality etc. One thing I really love about 43T is that all users are equal; we all have the same tools so what we make of 43T is up to us entirely. Although I think contributing to support of the site is reasonable and desireable – I would hate to lose the democratic feeling of 43T.
