Oh no! I hope this will not happen, it would be really bad news. The philosophies of Facebook and 43things are completely different: 43things is all about working hard to make things happen, Facebook is all about wasting your time having many “friends” and checking the “friends” of your “friends”.

I had a profile in hi5.com (which is very similar to Facebook) and I cancelled it because I thought it was not what I liked.

Anyway, this is just my opinion. I think people who want to use Facebook are completely free to do it, and are doing it already (probably lots of the people who are already on 43things). I just don’t want to be forced to be in.

    Should do this

Mostly I’m for being able to display my most recent All Consuming list. 43Things itself would be interesting, but not as much movement in the list.

How sad that it’s on Facebook now. The thing is, Facebook is the complete opposite of 43things in the way that it’s a bragging site (my opinion) where your main goal is to have as many ‘friends’ as possible on your list, half of which you don’t even speak to, sometimes have never spoken to, or plan to ever speak to again. It’s a site for wasting lots of time doing Nothing. Which to me gives the difference and appeal about the 43 site where I am actually inspired to DO something (other than just collecting ‘friends’, I mean, don’t I aldready know my friends?). Well, I think also the charm about 43 things is how you find your way there. Personally, I found it when I googled to find information about joining the Peace Corps (now that didn’t work out because I’m not american but I found 43 things and have been cheered into doing the things I really want with my life, like volunteering but through organisations I have in my country). I don’t think 43 things and Facebook go together. As someone else wrote here, a great upside of 43 things is that you can be anonymous. I probably wouldn’t list my goals as honestly as I do if I knew people I know from real life might be reading them. So I think it might compromise the way we are truthful to our personal goals on 43things. And risk that for what? A little publicity for 43 things? Well, I’d be sad to see this lovely home for honest goals and dreams fall into a status-trap and become just another thing you show off to all your friends on Facebook…

There ALREADY IS an app on facebook. It works well, just shows my list. I like it and it works like the other apps; I can choose who can see it (friends/public) or to not show it at all on my profile page.

    Should do this

I’d love to put my 43T goals on my facebook page. If people don’t want to share that on facebook, they could simply not use the app. It’s not that I want to use facebook to access 43Things, but I’d like to share my 43T list through facebook, if that makes sense.

Looks like you’d get more bang for your buck going with Google’s new OpenSocial instead. Facebook better get their asses going in adopting OpenSocial!

I agree with Movie Junkie. I don’t see any advantage for either site in creating a 43T Facebook app.

For many 43T users, a big part of the site’s value is the ability to explore our goals, achievements, and lack of progress in anonymity.

My Facebook friends include neighbours and colleagues who aren’t among those to whom I’d be comfortable giving access to my personal growth at the 43T level.

    Should not do this

I think it would be a waste of time for the creators of the site.
43 Things works very well as a site on its own, but combined with facebook, what would be the added advantage?
If it’s to make 43 Things more popular, then just tell your friends about it. The application wouldn’t be very different from the mother site, so those people with 43 Things and facebook would probably use them separate for convenience.
I’m quite happy using them separately :D

    Should do this

If anybody is interested, in the meantime, I written a couple of very simple facebook apps for bringing 43things and 43places inside Facebook:

    my43things: http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?api_key=481ca08c0cea9f311c9ad5a11b0e925b

    my43places: http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?api_key=36bb682b64617bdea356ccf400c0d6d4

they basically display your goals and places from 43T/P inside of your profile in facebook.

I know it is not yet a lot, a proper app would do much more…. but it is a starter… it could at least achieve the point “bringing more people and attention to 43things and its family of site”…

BTW, there is a similar topic of discussion at http://www.shoulddothis.com/entries/view/326 – just because I FOUND that before this… I don’t think facebook would really care of making this application, it is probably the Robots that should.

I tried to give my little contribution in the mean while, just because I felt there was a need for this “link” between the two social graphs…
